Future-Proof Your Building Automation: Tracer SC Discontinuation
As of December 31, 2025, Trane officially discontinued OpenVPN as an enabling technology for Trane Connect Remote Access. This change means that remote access to Tracer® SC systems through Trane Connect is no longer available for customers or Trane technicians.
The decision was driven by the need to comply with U.S. government security certifications, including FedRAMP and TX-RAMP, which set high standards for cloud security and data protection. By removing OpenVPN, Trane ensures its solutions remain secure and compliant for both government and private industry customers.
What This Means for Your Building Systems
If you are still using a legacy Tracer SC system, remote connectivity is no longer available. Local access and data collection services remain unaffected; however, if remote access is critical to your operations, upgrading to Tracer SC+ is the recommended path forward. Tracer SC+ uses secure WebSocket technology instead of OpenVPN, restoring remote access while providing enhanced cybersecurity, improved compatibility with modern browsers and operating systems, and access to new features designed to increase efficiency and productivity.
Benefits of Upgrading to Tracer SC+
Upgrading to Tracer SC+ provides continued remote access and ensures compatibility with current technology standards. The legacy Tracer SC platform has reached its end-of-support stage, meaning it will no longer receive firmware updates or security patches. Moving to SC+ allows systems to benefit from ongoing updates that address cybersecurity requirements, maintain browser and operating system compatibility, and incorporate new functionality designed to improve operational efficiency. This upgrade also helps organizations align with evolving security compliance standards, reducing risk and ensuring long-term system reliability.
Keeping Your Systems Secure and Connected
This change was implemented to strengthen security and compliance across Trane solutions, ensuring that customers can rely on safe, modern technology. Don’t let your operations fall behind—make the move to Tracer SC+ and keep your building systems connected, secure, and ready for the future.
